  1. Preheat oven to 180°C or 160°C fan. Line 2 baking trays with baking paper.
  2. Sift flour, sugar and cinnamon into a bowl. Add butter. Using your fingertips, rub in the butter until the mixture resembles breadcrumbs. Add golden syrup then mix to form a soft dough.
  3. Roll dough on a lightly floured surface until 5 mm thick. Using a 6 cm round cutter, cut rounds from dough. Place on prepared trays, allowing room for spreading. Using a skewer, make a hole at the top of each cookie, to allow for a ribbon to thread through. Chill for 10 mins.
  4. Bake for 10 mins, until golden. Let cool on trays.
  5. Decorate with writing icing and thread with Christmas ribbon.
