Perfect for family dinners, special gatherings, or as a flavorful protein addition to your weekly meal prep, this dish combines traditional Chinese barbecue techniques with ingredients you can easily find at home. Serve it with steamed rice, noodles, or even in a bao bun for a delicious twist.
Instructions
In a medium bowl, combine hoisin sauce, soy sauce, honey, rice wine, oyster sauce, Chinese five-spice powder, and red food coloring if using. Mix well to create the marinade.
Place the pork strips in a large resealable plastic bag or a shallow dish. Pour the marinade over the pork, ensuring it is evenly coated. Seal the bag or cover the dish and refrigerate for at least 4 hours or overnight for best results.
Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C). Line a baking sheet with foil and place a rack on top. Remove the pork from the marinade and arrange it on the rack. Reserve the marinade for basting.
Roast the pork in the preheated oven for 40 minutes, basting with the reserved marinade every 10 minutes.
Increase the oven temperature to 425°F (220°C) and roast for an additional 10 minutes to caramelize the edges, basting once more.
Remove the pork from the oven, let it rest for 5 minutes, and then slice into thin pieces. Serve warm.
