  1. Slice the buns into 2 cm thick slices.
  2. Butter the bun slices and arrange them in a baking dish or ramekins.
  3. Leave some of the bun slices sticking out the top of the dish so that they brown nicely. Scatter over the sultanas.
  4. Lightly beat the eggs and mix in the milk, sugar and vanilla. Pour mixture over the bread, letting it soak in. You may not use all of the mixture so leave it to stand for 10 minutes and then top it up as the bread soaks the mixture up.
  5. Place the dish/es in a baking dish and then pour enough water into the dish to come half way up the sides of the pudding dish. Bake in a 200c oven until the pudding is slightly puffed up and has golden tips - approx 30 minutes.
  6. Dust with icing sugar before serving.
